American Flag BurnedOAKLAND~ By Laird Harrison (Reuters) The "peaceful" occupy movement has shown its true stripe on the streets of Oakland, California. Growing impatient with their stalled and dwindling experiment the hippies have cast aside the ways of Gandhi and engaged riot police repeatedly in their bid to claim as their own an idle convention center in the city. "The one percent have all these empty buildings, and meanwhile there are all these homeless people," protester Omar Yassin told Reuters at the scene. "Officers were pelted with bottles, metal pipe, rocks, spray cans, improvised explosive devices and burning flares," the Oakland Police Department said in a statement. "Oakland Police Department deployed smoke and tear gas." STAY TUNED, More Festivities To Come~ Elsewhere, the National Park Service said on Friday it would bar Occupy protesters in the nation's capital, one of the few big cities where Occupy encampments survive, from camping in two parks where they have been living since October. That order, which takes effect on Monday, was seen as a blow to one of the highest-profile chapters of the movement. http://news.yahoo.com/pol...protesters-000545184.html

Whoever set off the tear gas should have paid a little more attention.

Police just shot protester in small of her back when she was less than a foot away. Crying, limping. #occupyoakland @subverzo Lately I've been seeing people on internet discussions describing someone as being butthurt--is this what they're talking about?

That flag and floor stand that those scumbags are torching looks to me like it was stolen out of a courthouse or some such. Way to represent, scumbags.

If they were really the 99% as claimed they why do they feel the need for the disguises and masks. One would think they'd prefer to be identifiable so that they could bask in the adulation of their fellow 99%'er peers.
Surely anyone who identifies them later in life would be sympathetic, as a fellow member of the 99% , right ?
Everyone arrested at an occupy protest should be named and shamed in a very public way as a component of their punishment.

I hate to tell you but having to see someone who deals with someone like this as an ex spouse, they really do have zero shame and aren't all that open to really trying to understand the fallacy in their belief system. They really see nothing wrong with what they believe in and are very invested in it to not hear any other arguments. All they are motivated by are pure and simple greed and being part of something they deem as hip(at least the ones who aren't criminals). I kid you not; it's really that simple(and stupid). Having watched a few people now transition to this, I think we as conservatives need to stay vigilant at the brain-washing that goes on. I mean it is nothing short of brain-washing and we need to be very assertive in being sure that folks are getting an alternative in a very aggressive way to counteract it. I say it's brain-washing because the utter inability or outright refusal of some of these folks to even consider another side and their willingness to go to violence over it. Someone who has lost their inability to reason and consider an argument and deny even credible arguments and is willing to distance themselves from loved ones over this in my mind is nothing short of brain-washed. It's a sad time we live in.

Yes I know this all too well. My comment was somewhat tongue in cheek. The reason I want them publicly named and shamed is so that normal folks and security services can recognise them - and ostracise them where possible. How to deal with the brainwashing perpetrated by the left via the education and media industries is something that desperately needs to be addressed because as it stands the left has us over a barrel there. Their goal of controlling thought by controlling language (the meaning of words is fluid and set by them as required) is very much a success thus far.

Can't disagree with that my friend. The brainwashing that has gone on is indeed distressing. I too have considered how to counteract this in daily interactions because the 'average person' believer in this crap seem to be invested to the point they refuse to even open their ears to hear an alternative. I consider myself truly open-minded and at least willing to investigate and consider, even if I know my conclusion probably will not agree. What I see is a total unwillingness to even consider and that to me is brainwashing at it's most effective. It's hard not to give up, but I have skin in this game ie I have children to whom I owe a fight to not let this current surge of liberalism run amuck. I sure hope we find the right combonation to get things back on track and to win back the hearts and more importantly the minds of people.

Well said. Words have no absolute meaning; words only have function. We'd best learn how to better frame our ideas about personal liberty because, lo, the Huns are at the door.

From the DU thread...(link above) BeHereNow(15,710 posts) 9. I hope the Occupy Marines who have pledged to protect the protesters are calling up a response-
I am absolutely horrified by what is happening in Oakland. BHN
Fake Progressive Marines are...fake. You don't have people in the military. Just pretenders. But this IS liberalism at its core: Make others come and fight their fights.
