Hell, half or more of the White House wouldn't qualify to join the military and the ones that did wouldn't be able to hold a clearance.

Yes Thor, the security clearance was a big one then, not so much today.

Ex Hubby musing on the documents he found when his father died.

He had all his life believed his grandfather had been born in Finnland.  He had been checked out up and down before Sub service, SSBN 609 and had no problem.

30 years later when his father died and family records were looked at, seems because of the Russian and Findland wars, his granddads birth certificate says he was born in Russia.

What a laugh that was was for our son who when finding out wondered if his grandfathers, grandfather had been a Mongal.

Actually, as I look back on the number of traitors in the military service, it was for money, not ideals.

There were so many holes in security in the early 70's, I worked as a bar maid in the early 70's and the wives of the wardroom crew would call me to find out when the BOAT was due to get into port.

No problem for me, the Boats coming into Groton would call in and have a couple Kegs put on for the crew and give date and time.  Security what a laugh.

Now you got  me going Thor,    you may not know about this but perhaps Sparky has.

The very first rime I heard about government misdirection was the affair of the Scorpion, a fast attack Sub.    Word does get out to the family's of the Subs across America.  Its home port I believe was Charleston SC.

This boat had been on patrol in the Atlantic, Mediterranean and possibly the Black Sea to photo  radar instillation's.

The Navy had for a couple of days tried to contact the boat and received no answer.   Nether the less, phone calls were made to the wives and parents of the crew that the boat would be coming in to pier # at the time of # on the day of #.

It is really exciting to see one of these boats come into port, amazing that your husband or son has been encapsulated within for months at a time.

[ Note ] it is most different when the boat is left in Scottland or the Phillipeans because the crew fly home. We see family disembark from airplanes every day, to see them come home on board this type of war ship is the thing of science fiction.  Your Dad, brother or son has lived a few months we topside can not understand.

What the Navy did next was terrorising.   Family's had flown in from all over the country to greet their relative, wives and children all crowded the dock at the proper time and waited, and waited, and waited.

It came to the point that people were sleeping in their cars until told to go home and wait for another call.

Those that refused to leave were gently escorted off base for reasons of security.

It was agonizing hours before everyone was called together and told the Navy had no idea where the Boat was.    The very idea of Sub Sunk was never mentioned.

Can you imagine Thor going to the airport to pick up family flying in and being told the flight was over due, so you sit and wait.   After 6 hours airport security comes by and tells you that you need to go home and wait for the plane to land.

You object as you intend to wait right where you are until the police gently escort you off the property for security reasons.

Hours and hours later you are called to come into the airport for a meeting with others waiting for other passengers aboard the flight.    The CEO of all this gets up and addresses you with, sorry folks, we have no idea where the plane is.

When others including yourself begin to ask questions you are shut down with the " no questions, this is a matter of national Security.

I was very young when we lost that boat, it lead to my never trusting authority again.

One thing I never found out was the name of the  Boomer that the fast attack was protecting.

It's OK Thor, I got it

Vesta, I think that you're a little off topic with your post because it really doesn't address the subversive issue. It does, however, show how some of the military and the military family violates security. If you told anybody of a ship or subs movement/ arrival time, then you, too, are guilty of OPSEC. That said, you aren't alone in doing this as I noticed several publishings in the Norfolk, VA paper of when and where a ship would arrive. IT always boggled my mind as to why the Navy never took any action against publishing the ship's arrivals/ departures. I'm going to split this post and move it to the military section.

Hell man, I know a wife the other day who posted exact travel dates for her husband, as well as his units address in Iraqistan on Facebook.  When she was told this was wrong her husband (the military member) went ballistic on the people saying it violated OPSEC.

We got some real idiots out there...

To be fair Thor, most ships arrivals are released by the PAO's...........along with Air Wings and MEU's.  Their departures and destinations however usually aren't.

Yeah OPSEC sucks in this new everything must be posted on the web days

We were supposed to deploy in August for Desert Shield. Some idiot airman (E-3, Navy, NOT AF) and his wife got on the news and broadcast our unit's deployment dates and destination. He wound up staying behind when we deployed. He did go to Captain's Mast for his blabbermouth. We didn't deploy until two months later because of him.

Isn't the military considering letting members of the forces access to social networking sites?

Yes, but from what I understand, they are being watched pretty closely. It seems to me that our military has better things to do than monitor the various social networking sites.

Yeah, but I can just see some Facebook status updates.

I think that would be a bad idea.  Back before the AF got heavy handed on what websites we could visit, people in my career field would be all over the facebooks of the day.  Work productivity was horrible.  As big as Facebook, Tweet, and all that is now today, it's just asking for bad shit all over the place.

Family of Spies: The John Walker Jr. Spy Case - Crime Library ...
... but hidden inside were 129 stolen classified U.S. Navy documents, eight-by- ten .... Worse, Walker had mentioned the other spy rings members in his note. ...

www.trutv.com/library/crime/terrorists_spies/spies/wa...

This is my favorite crime as most everyone in Norfork knew John Walker.

Being ex-sub and use to socialization with every one from the cook to the Captain, John got around.

One night he would be at the " O " club getting up a game of golf, he was not that good, my hubby loved to play with him as hubby knew he could take him.

Next night at the Chiefs club chatting up the radio men----and a few times he accompanied his son to the the EM club on one of the bases.

He was very good at reading people, when Hubby had a motorcycle accident and we felt sorry for the kid that put hubby in the hospital for 2 weeks and settled for a new bike and chicken feed for pain and suffering, John stopped inviting hubby to play golf.

I think he hurt Hubby's feelings as John told him he was a F***ing idiot and we could have paid off the mortgage and had a nice bank roll to boot.

Hubby told him that the young Marine was born the year he had enlisted in the Navy and this could end his service.  My Hubby was a man of conscious---Good Rest His Soul.

Anyway, his arrest was a bit of a shocker to everyone, he and son sold out this country for money, not ideals, worse kind of snake, a blight on the gene pool.

STUPID man, had he kept his mouth shut to his wife and assured she had a good life and not been so greedy, he and Son may have been able to cause enough havoc to really compromise the Military more-much more then he did.

Unfortunately we now have more people who wish to take the money and run.  Sure people will innocently talk about military plans, that is a fact of life.

This new spy for a religious or some kind of ideal bothers me no end.

Question I want to know here, why were the imprisoned father and son not executed as a warning to others that may think of doing the same thing.?

I can't tell you WHY they weren't executed except that it appears that we no longer execute traitors. I hate the Walker family that did this crap because it affected me and my job skill adversely and directly. One of the systems they compromised was one of the systems we used on our aircraft. It caused a LOT of work and other bullshit.

Not considering.  It became official, found out today.  I cannot find a single good thing about this.
