As I have said before. I don't like eveything Ben Nelson has done for Nebraska,The plan to stop the nuclear storage facility that he came up with comes to mind costing the taxpayers of Nebraska a ton of money in lawsuits and legal fees is one example.
Oh, yes, how well I remember that.
I was property manager for one of Nebraska's then-biggest Democrats during the early 1990s, about the time Senator Nelson was first elected governor. My boss, now deceased from putting a revolver into his mouth and pulling the trigger, was an insurance man, who did some work on checking out sites for a nuclear waste disposal facility.
I disremember why I was told to keep quiet about it.
Nebraska, when Nelson was governor, made a commitment with various other states, to build this nuclear waste disposal facility. The site was to be not far from where I currently live, because "nobody lives out [t]here."
Nebraska had to renege on building the facility, and was then sued by the other states involved, for hundreds of millions of dollars. The other states won. Nebraska is a very small state, and one can only imagine the burden this imposes upon them.
I wish I could be more clear, but my knowledge of this, in between then-governor Nelson promising all these other states he would put a facility here, and Nebraska ultimately having to go back on it, is scattered, because in the interval, I was wandering around the socialist paradises of the workers and peasants, ignorant of any news from the free world.
It was a scandal, but of what nature I'm not sure, having been only at the beginning and at the end, absent in between.
This however hardly tarnished my estimation of Ben Nelson, because compared with other Nebraska Democrats my then-boss feted, the then-governor was a virtual saint.
