If you have heirloom plants reseeding themselves every year, you will probably now have marigolds doing the same.  Even in North Platte, mine reseeded for 7 or 8 years, until I started throwing the whole plant in the compost every fall because I wanted something else to grow in that spot.  Of interest to you, they didn't spread all over the place, but reseeded in pretty much the same area every year.  Their seeds don't blow around the way dandelions do.  You may enjoy them without concern.

To take from one because it is thought that his own industry and that of his father’s has acquired too much, in order to spare to others, who, or whose fathers, have not exercised equal industry and skill, is to violate arbitrarily the first principle of association—the guarantee to every one of a free exercise of his industry and the fruits acquired by it.

Thomas Jefferson
