ok, with the possibility of multiple BS's looming... General officers are allowed to set their own uniform. There have been pictures of GEN Shelton when he was COS wearing a green beret with 4 stars (totally unauthorized by regs) and this was his official picture distributed for posting at units.
That being said, every general officer I've ever seen has stuck to the regs to the letter. Plus, this guy is totally ate up.

I can see the case for Shelton wanting to wear his stars on his beret. That's kinda like showing bravado. Tabs on the right shoulder? That's a major faux pas. Why would anyone do that? Also, his Southwest Asia Service Medal is to the left of his GCM. Hell, his Vietnam ribbons are out of order as well. This  is ate up like a soup sandwich. |

UPDATE: His ass is grass. He DID serve, even in Vietnam as a amphib operator, but never got any trigger time, and left the Army as a PFC. LINKNice work and H/T to the guys at TAH. |
