Well, while they would starve to death in a subsistence economy, I guess it would be relatively painless. And basically a good thing for everyone else, of course.

You have to look at this from a democrat perspective. To a DUmmy, marijuana is far more of a concern than wheat. Much more critical. You see, the taxpayers will always provide them with food. Unfortunately, no one has starved in this country in centuries. But they're on their own to score their dope. So they're much more concerned about dope than wheat That, and the fact that many DUmmies have no idea what "wheat" is used for. Wheaties? Wheat chex?

Typical progressives.... attempting to marginalize an illegal substance by calling it "hemp". While the hemp plant is a distant cousin of marijuana, it hasn't been hybridized to be as potent as today's marijuana. Hemp DOES have a variety of uses outside of getting one "high", such as rope, clothing, building and other things. I'm all for the use of hemp as a resource. I'm actually in favor of legalizing marijuana, selling it through local markets and benefitting from the increased tax revenues. A legalized marijuana would also help eliminate the added drugs that are used to "get a better high", making it a safer substance. HOWEVER, I would encourage DUI laws that parallel DWI laws. Hell, the entire reason that many drugs are illegal is solely due to the racist attitudes in the early 20th century.

So for those DUmmies who voted pot over wheat, exactly what are they going to make their pot brownies with? You need wheat to make brownies.

In Queensland the police have a roadside drug testing kit - and use it. It picks up a spectrum of different drugs including the active components of THC (and not the metabolites as in a urine test). Zero tolerance policy in effect. If you're driving stoned then you're going to lose your driving privileges and potentially end up with a jail term depending on contributing factors. Hemp on the other hand - is actually grown in some places here as a research crop and small scale commercial crop. Hemp being a subtly different species to sativa or indica (the ones that are intensely hybridized to produce smoking weeds). The government comes past now and again to ensure that they're not sneaking in a few dope trees on the side and that the THC content doesn't exceed what would be found in an average piece of granite. The plants are visually different with hemp having much thicker pulpier stems and stalks and smaller less dense and more seed filled flowers. Drove past a field of the stuff one time in my yoof and skidded to a stop. My passenger at the time was over the fence and into the field before I could even get my door open. The expression of disappointment on his face was priceless
